Why Bloggers should show their Pictures on their Blogs

Showing your own pictures on your blog is not really a requirement while there are there are bloggers who choose not to do so; there are also those who proudly let the visitors see it. Most of them are posting it on their About page, in which you can also find mine. Although this could be also dangerous in terms of stolen identity and lost of privacy, here are some of the reasons why I think all bloggers should also do the same.

Great suggestion. Where's your picture? :)

Hi Thomas! My picture is right there on the About Me section just as I mentioned where bloggers usually put their own pictures. I placed it there just before I made this post. Hope you find it and thanks for appreciating my suggestion.

I still feel that too many bloggers are overly concerned about privacy. As I commented on Darren's original post at Problogger, there may be situations when you need to blog undercover -- such as when you post material critical of the place you work or you happen to be in the witness protection program. Most of us have nothing to fear in this regard and it's plain silly to ignore your photo when it can add so much to your credibility.

Pick up almost any hard cover book and you'll find a photo of the author on the back cover. Is your blog writing so insignificant that it doesn't rate the same treatment as the hundreds of second rate novels issued each year? If it is, then you may as well quit blogging. Unless you really have something to hide, take pride in your blog and show the world what you look like.

That is a very well said comment, Tom. I understand your feelings, you being a professional photographer. It really sucks when you are dealing with someone you do not "see". I just hope our fellow co-bloggers will realize this. Thanks for helping me waking them up.

Thanks for the validation. I was not completely sure that adding my picture to my blog would be a good idea.

Now, I'm glad I did.

I would enjoy a better and more recent one - that's the best I have for the moment. :)

As for 'privacy,' while I'm very big on it, I realize that there is so much information out there and that it will be highly unlikely to be singled out with all the 'noise' in the world.

I guess I'm just not that worried about my picture on my blog. There are a lot of other things that concern me far more at this time.

So, I'll keep the picture on my blog for now - it's certainly memorable, isn't it?

You are welcome, Pam. Your picture still looks fine with some light on it. For me, bloggers are somehow public figures too. Visitors are our critics and showing our pictures to them do not distract our privacy totally. Just like I said, it is the price we have to pay if we want to blog.

I totally agree with your suggestions. There are so many things one can do to protect one's privacy. If you think about it though, is there such thing as private in the internet world? I don't think so.

True, our own photo's somehow provide more appropriate credibility to the things we write. Aside from that it provides a glimpse of our own distinct web personality. It is some kind of a business card, if you like.

But I guess to each his own, right? Blogging is a personal decision really.

I say, let's just keep on blogging.

Cheers!

So here's to more

Thanks for agreeing with me, Lotus flower. Credibility is what bloggers need to be successful and posting their picture is a big factor.

Happy blogging!
