How to Choose the Top Bloggers you must Socialize with
What to do if you only have limited time to Blog

First of all, I am sorry if I have not posted for about a week. This is because I lost my connection and it is hard to rent one after office hours. Anyway, all is fine now and I will try to make it up to you. But during those days, I was not really that invisible. Although I only had almost an hour on-line everyday, I did my best to maximize my time. Here is what I did and I hope it can help you once you will be in the same position.
Prepare future posts
Since it is only my connection that was lost, I still have my PC which I used to prepare my future posts. I spend my time making drafts and review them everyday to make them better. I even felt relaxed because there were no pressure as to what time I should post them. You can also use your time to proofread your post, and ask your off-line friends to check them. Their point of views can be as important as your visitors’ comments.
Promote off-line
I took the chance to promote my blogs to non-bloggers. I had more time to socialize with my off-line friends and officemates, and was able to explain them what I have been doing for the last 12 months of my life. This is maybe quite simple but you should be able to choose the people you will talk to because not everybody is interested in opening blogs. But there are also other ways to promote off-line such as placing a promotion sticker on your car, placing ads on newspapers and others.
Forum posting
I am an active member of six forums and it need not take a long time to post on them. Since my signature bears the link to my blogs, it was enough to let them know that I have a blog. However, it does not mean you can easily convince them to visit your blog. Besides the rules that you must follow, you should project an image that can invite them to visit your blog. This is where your posting ability will come out. Being a sociable blogger will also help a lot.
Post comments on blogs
Being a subscriber to your favorite blogs is an advantage if you have only a limited time on-line. You can easily the blogs posts where you can leave a comment. I am a subscriber of about 10 blogs and leaving comments on their posts is part of my daiy blogging life. However, you must not post useless comments and expect the blog owner and other commentators will visit your blog. In addition, your comment might even be disapproved.
Soul searching
You read it right; it is also time to search your self about blogging. Analyze your past views about blogging and compare it to your present feelings. Ask your self some interesting questions like - Is it really worth the effort to blog? Is the excitement still there or you are just pushing yourself in? Does my income in blogging compensate all my hard work? On the other hand, you can also prepare your plans on what to prioritize once you have a connection again.
Time is more precious than gold since you can never take it back.

Sometimes, we are just too busy with other things and we do not have time to socialize with fellow bloggers. But then, we must continue to promote them even to non-bloggers. However, these people may not understand what we are doing and therefore, different approach must be made. Convincing them to do what they do not usually do is the hardest part, and it is not enough that we invite them to visit our blogs without telling them some details. Here are some techniques I have been doing lately.
Choose potential visitors
Not all Internet users are interested in opening blogs, so you must choose them carefully. Know what they like to read and make sure your topic belongs to their point of interest. Otherwise, you are just wasting your time. It is also better if you do it within your circle of friends like parties, meetings and when you are speaking in front of a crowd. Choose the ones who are fond of reading, and avoid the busy people who do not have spare time.
Do not invite them at once
Inviting them at once is like driving them away because reading blogs can be scary to them. Do not expect them to know what a blog is, although they may have heard of it before. A better start is to tell them what they can get from opening your blog, and why should they spend time reading your posts. Never tell them that you are the best blogger and your blog is the best blog in the world. Instead, leave a mystery so they can be thrilled while you are inviting them.
Guide them
Treat them like a child, and guide them patiently. Find the shortest keyword that can lead to your blog on when they Google it, and make sure it really does. Tell them everything they should know about a blog such as the sidebars, the archives as well as your ads. I also think they should know what will happen when they click your ads. This is not only being honest, but also to avoid your ads to be abused which may harm your blog. To guide them effectively, be accessible at all times.
Invite them to subscribe
There is nothing better than to convert them to regular readers, so invite them. This is better than inviting them to visit your blog again. However, they must know that it is totally free and they can unsubscribe anytime they like. Inform them also about your blogging frequency especially when they seldom check their mails. They may get annoyed when they are see a lot of messages in their inbox, and may think that your posts are spam messages.
Treat strangers nicely because first impression lasts.

Subscribers are loyal readers and it is good to have a lot of them. However, we must admit that sometimes our feed counters are not working well and we doubt that our subscribers are really authentic recipients of our posts. But if you have proven that the numbers are for real, you must cherish them. Besides avoiding them to unsubscribe, it is also better if we can invite them to open our blog. Here are my tips that you may find helpful.
Improve your blog looks
Our subscribers can only read what they receive, and they may get bored when they open your blog and see the usual looks again. I strongly advise that you also consider how your blog appears on the screen. Change your template or blog design to a more wonderful site to view, and ask for their opinion. Have additional widgets on your blog such as Top Commenters, Recent Comments and other rewards to your readers. However, changing it frequently is not a good habit.
Host something they can participate
Run a blog carnival, contest or a poll where your readers can participate. Post a sticky invitation so they will be magnetized at once. Convince them that they will not only enjoy the fun, but they will also benefit a lot when they join. However, be sure that you have enough time to accommodate them when they come in numbers. Valuable giveaways such as free e-books and tutorials are also a big help. Being a sociable blogger is a big advantage to have a convincing power.
Maximize your related posts
If you have related posts on your blog, include them at the end of your post with a highlight so they can easily be noticed. But be sure that these posts are really related to the current post. Do not worry about the age of the posts as long as you are making timeless posts. Related posts can also be placed in between the post but do not overdo it. They will be suspected as affiliate links. Be conscious when you are endorsing something. Subscribers are after our posts, not on our advertisements.
Make a summary post
If you think you have enough number of valuable posts, make a post with a link to each post and invite your readers to view them. This post is somewhat different from the sitemap in the sense that you will only choose the posts that will be included. Arrange them categorically and make them reader-friendly. Use an attractive title to identify that they are your best posts. You can also add your older but ageless posts. Your subscribers will then be curious about the posts that they may not have yet read.
Make your posts worth to comment
Comments are the result of an interesting post. Do not be satisfied with what you want to write. Write for your readers, not for yourself. They are our end customers, and their comments are important. Having regular commentators and friendly critics on your blog will spice up your energy, and if your subscribers will know about it they will be attracted to join the crowd. If you can invite your readers to post comments, your subscribers may also do the same.
To gain loyalty, build a character.

How to Post on Forums and Increase Traffic to your Blog

Forum posting is one of the oldest techniques to increase traffic to blogs, and it is still very effective until today. It is not only about socializing with other members, but also to share valuable information and learning from others. However, there are some bloggers who find it hard to maximize its usage and think that forums are only for expert webmasters and SEO gurus. While you may already read some forum tips before, I will try to make a different approach here.
Read and follow the rules religiously
Do not be lazy to read the rules carefully, and follow them religiously. Different forums may have different rules and it is their prerogative. The best technique to avoid being suspended or banned is to visit the Search box first before starting a topic. Forums are very strict to spammers and repetitive posting. There are also forums that require a certain number of posts before you can put a signature. Be patient enough and you will benefit in the long run.
Be a convincing thread starter
Before starting a thread, think if you can convince others to reply. One of the effective ways is to provide a convincing thread title and do not just post a link to a post. Add some inviting words that would describe the links. Some forum topics may be repetitive in nature, but can be interesting to follow if you tickle the minds of the readers. If someone replies or oppose your post, you must be prepared with your defense. It will be better if you can make your threads longer.
Ask an interesting question
Ask a question that looks interesting and can invite different point of views, as well as personal experiences. But of course, you must submit it with your honest opinion and explain them in full details. In addition, you must monitor the flow of comments and reply to them. I recently ask a question at Sitepoint that goes like this - Which do you prefer, many subscribers or commenters? For only 5 days, it had almost 600 views and numerous replies, and still increasing.
Be a good Samaritan
If someone needs help very badly, provide immediate assistance and with humility. Never be self-centered and do not act as if you are the best provider of answers. Imagine that there are also other members who can provide a better answer. Moreover, be sure that your answers are correct. Otherwise, the poor guy might be misled and other members will humiliate you. There is nothing better than projecting a good image.
Do not be greed in posting
It may be obvious that the more you post, the more exposure you will have. However, being greedy in posting will annoy others as well as forum administrator. Avoid short and multiple replies that are not valuable, unless you are in the General Chat section. In short, reply only on topics that interest you just like you are doing on blogs. Anyway, you can highlight your signature and make an attractive description of your blog.

Although there may be tons of tips on how to promote our blogs, posting comments on other blogs is one of the simplest way. This does not require technical skills or a lot of time, and there are thousands and thousands of blogs to choose from. However, some bloggers are not gaining from them because they are taking some important factors for granted. Spam comments are everywhere, and you may not notice that yours are among them. Here are some of my observations and I would like to thank Lin personally for bringing some of them to me.
Post valuable comments
Valuable means you do not only say “Nice post, or great list, or worst, I just drop by to say hi” This means you have to contribute interesting facts about the post, or sharing your experience related to the post. If there is a question on the post, answer them with all you can. Read and understand the whole post carefully before you leave a comment, especially if you want to add something. You might be adding something that is already there. If you don’t, chances are your comments will be disapproved.
Post related comments
Your comment may be valuable but if it is off-topic, consider it as nonsense. If you want to promote it, find a proper place where it cannot hurt you or other bloggers. If you are selling something or offering a paid service, you can always use the contact form. Leaving comments may look like a forum thread but you will not be careful, you will overdo it and it will annoy other commenters and the blog owner as well. Show some respect for the blogger and who knows, he might also visit your blog. You will be hitting many birds in one stone.
Do not do the obvious
Although you may have similar topics on your blog, avoid mentioning it unless it is being asked. In addition, do not show numerous links to your blog posts. The link from your name is actually enough if your comments are interesting to read. In addition, never provide a link to you blog post that is obviously irrelevant just for the sake of promoting your blog. On the other hand, it is better that you direct the link from your name to the blog URL you want to be visited instead of your home page. Visitors will find it easier to get to your post.
Be consistent
The more consistent you post comments on the same blog, the greater chance you will have in succeeding in promoting your blog. This is because the blog owner or other commenters can easily notice you. However, you must be conscious about it. Although being the first commenter can help a lot, it can also be a disadvantage not only to you, but also to the blog owner. Sometimes, you can think of a better comment if there are other comments ahead of you. Consistency does not only mean quantity but also quality.
How we promote our blog reflects our identity as a blogger.

How to make your Blog post land on the top spot of Google Search
I am not really comfortable to share my achievements because I feel my readers would think that I am a conceited person. However, I think it is my responsibility to let others know that sometimes, the almost impossible can be possible and who knows? I can help somehow.
Anyway, some of you may be familiar with the Help Save Serena movement started by his father so that his child will be brought from UK to US for the treatment of Neuroblastoma. In fact, he even made a blog out of it and many has been touched and made their own post. I also did my share on my other blog and even donated some Entrecard points.
But to my surprise, my post landed on the top spot of Google Search after 10 days which you can see the photo above. A certain stranger found my blog post by searching through Google. So what are the most possible reasons?
Maximizing the title
If you will notice, all of my title posts are composed of many words which I think very important to invite readers. This is because the title must catch the attention of the visitors and will eventually read them. It must also contain the summary of the post. So instead of making the title Help Save Serena, I made it Help Save Serena and her Fight against Neuroblastoma. As you can see, the stranger searched for the words Serena and Neuroblastoma. It is therefore not advisable to make your title post a single word or a very small phrase.
Content keywords
I usually spend long hours for a single post before I submit it. This is because I do not only check for errors and make it interesting to read, I also consider the quantity and position of the keywords and the related ones. This is for the search engines to easily trace them. In short, keyword density is very important. According to wikipedia, it is the number of times a keyword or phrase appears compared to the total number of words in a page. Therefore, a good post must be friendly to both humans and software.
There may be other factors like inbound links but since I am not a SEO guru, I am still searching for the right information so I can explain it better.
Incidentally, the stranger was a certain Yvonne Brown who sent me a mail and asking for the e-mail address of Serena’s father because she was willing to help. I immediately visited the blog and posted a comment together with the message of Yvonne. I also replied to Yvonne together with the e-mail address of Serena’s father.

How did you promote your Blog when Entrecard was down?
Entrecard has just been up since yesterday after 2 days of temporary stoppage due to its database server being taken offline by an explosion on ThePlanet’s H1 datacenter, as explained by Phirate’s latest post at Entrecard blog. Whatever it was, all of us has been affected especially the very serious droppers. We all know that Entrecard is not the only way to promote our blogs, and here is what I did.
Posted comments on blogs
I posted comments on blogs especially the ones I admired. For me one blog that is worth to post comments is Problogger by Darren Rowse. I am one of his thousands of subscribers and I join his numerous commenters even when Entrecard is at its normal operation. This is because his posts are very interesting and posting comments is like posting on forums. I gained some regular readers by consistently doing this. However, I make sure that my comments are valuable and worthy enough.
Visit Social Bookmaring sites
Being a constant member of BlogCatalog and Mybloglog, I took time to add my contacts and communities. Although I frequently return the favor when someone adds me, I had enough time now to choose blogs to be added by checking if they have the same point of interest as mine. I also submitted some of my posts at Blogsvine. It is a social site where you can also vote for others. If you will check their homepage now, you will see my Entrecard widget on the leftmost side. That is free promotion, my friends.
Forum posting
I have been a member of Sitepoint since last year, but I did not find time to post regularly. But this time, I also started some threads where I ask some questions related to blogging and SEO. Forum posting is a very effective way of promoting blogs. This is because there are some forums where you can show links to your blogs in your signature. However, extra caution should be observed. Read the rules and regulations to avoid from being banned. For Filipino bloggers, I strongly recommend Pinoy Exchange.
Improved blog looks
If you will visit my other blog, you will notice that it has a new look. I changed its template with more professional attire. I also arranged the sidebars through the help of my favorite Blogger Buster. It is a blog created by Amanda Fazani to help blogger user to improve blog designs. I also included a traffic tracker where I can see where my visitors are coming from. Now, I can analyze my traffic resources and choose the ones I benefit the most. Thanks to my friend-mentor Raden for sharing this technique to me.

Two Ways to shorten your long Blog URL
It is not a secret that my blogs has super long URL, and I must admit this is one of my biggest mistakes in blogging. Actually, my idea was to create phrases as my blogs’ URLs to make them unique. In fact, their former titles are also the URL. But I decided to change them to make them easier to type and to minimize typographical errors.
In case you do not notice, the URLs of my blogs are http://wherebloggersandhumansmeet.blogspot.com and http://whatparentsshouldrealize.blogspot.com which are composed of 47 and 45 characters respectively. Whew!
But after reading a great post from Kumo of Toast & Egg & Me, I learned that there is a solution to my problem. I can now transform my long URLs to shorter ones. Although my URLs are permanent and can never be changed, these shorter URLs are their equivalent.
This will be very helpful for me especially when I am at Twitter which has limited number of characters to be used. Another advantage of this tool is you can hide your affiliate links if you want to.
With this, I strongly suggest that you visit TinyURL and SnipURL, and choose what will fit you. Both of them has each unique feature and of course, free to use.

Blog contests are now popular in the blogosphere, and it seems that everybody is crazy about them, and that includes me. I already joined 3 of them and won 2 times, and that is not bad for me. I also ran a small giveaway on my blog and I was satisfied with the result.
Nowadays, prizes and mechanics are getting more exciting, and more bloggers are getting interested to be part of these blog contests. But what some bloggers do not realize is that contests also serve as a good medium of increasing readership. However, one must be able to find good strategies to maximize the opportunities. Here is what I learned and for you to think about.

Blogsvine – A Fast Rising Social Bookmarking Site
Top social bookmarking sites are fun to join with and you will enjoy the result if you learn how to use them properly. However, you have to work hard because of the stiff competition. This may consume a lot of time and effort, instead of spending it with your blog. But since freshman bloggers like me needs to be noticed, I did not give up and through Entrecard, I found Blogsvine. At first, I was hesitant to join since it is new, but I gave it a try.
I was surprised that all of my submitted posts had reasonable number of votes. No other social sites treated me that way. In addition, they have this revenue sharing where they share 65% of the Google Adsense Ads shown on the member-submitted pages.
Incidentally, I found an interview post to the owner himself Nandeibam as posted by David of General Marketing Blog, one of the few blogs I admire.

How to Socialize within your Blog

Blogging is socializing. Although you must make your blog content king, it will look useless if you do not know that they are being read. To have a proof that they are, you must socialize with others. Social sites such as Digg, SU and Twitter are helpful, but it is more fascinating if you socialize within your blog. Besides, it is a direct way of inviting visitors to your blog. While there are a lot of ways how to do it, here are only some of them that I am currently doing in which I found very effective.
Share your experience
People love to know what you have been through whether it is a success or failure. By sharing them, readers will be interested to know you better. You can also create a community within your blog by inspiring them with your success. On the other hand, readers would also like to learn from your mistakes. This is also a sign of humility. However, be sure that you are not inventing them because readers are intelligent enough. They can sense if you are untrue to them. If they do, your blogging life will end up miserable.
Share useful tips
Useful tips do not only include the How To posts, but also What Not To Do things. If you are posting the How To tips, be sure that they are really applicable. You must have tried and tested them, and had a positive effect on your blog. Readers will be also thankful to you if you post the What to Avoid things and warn them about the bad effect they may cause on their blogs, and will waste their precious time. However, write only the proven facts. Be a keen observer and do some research.
Be accommodating
To show that you are really accommodating, you must be easy to contact with. Besides putting a contact link on every end of your post, have an easy to access Contact Page. In this page, tell your readers that they can ask anything under the sun, and that you also accept suggestions, criticisms, and even service and product promotion. However, be sure that you have enough time to entertain them if they come abundantly. If you fail to do so, they will be disappointed and you may loose them.
Love your commenters
There are commenters who really took time to thank you for your interesting posts. Some also share their experiences. Replying to them immediately makes them happy. They will be glad that you are pushing an effort to communicate with them. I strongly advise that you show your Top Commenters and Recent Comments widgets on your sidebar. Who knows, they may be your regular followers and commenters someday. However, replying to comments need strategies too. You should also know how to deal with the not so good ones.
Run a valuable contest
For me, a valuable contest is not only about the amount of prize. It is also how it can help the contestants grow as a blogger. If you will notice my running contest, I am trying to help other bloggers by giving them ideas on what to post. I know how hard it is to make one especially if you are in a writer’s block. However, I am not saying that other types of contest are useless. In fact, I joined one and even won a free banner from Mr. Javo’s Birthday Contest.
Finally, do not treat your followers as fans. Consider them as friends who are helping you in reaching your goals as a blogger.

Sitehopping – A Better Way to Entrecard Dropping?

While I was busy dropping cards and reading posts, I noticed that more and more blogs have this widget from Sitehopping.com. I thought this is just another blog who does it good in placing ads on blogs. However, I started to read blog posts about it and some bloggers even invited me to join them. I was hesitant because it might be another burden for me but I will not get something in return. Not until I read this very interesting post at Josh's Unconventional Marketing Blog. This made me visit the blog and took time to read their offer. Here is what I found out.
Free Traffic
After you signed in, you may be able to get free traffic through beer credits. Yes, beer credits my friends and they admit that they actually drink beer at work because they work in an apartment where they treat it like home. Anyway, these beer credits can be earned through multiple ways. But what surprised me is you can earn them through site hopping or visiting other blogs like we do at Entrecard. Other means of earning credits are by rating the blogs, placing comments, blog submission and for the biggest points, putting their widget on your blogs. You can also win them if you will be the King of Hops.
So what are they for? For every 10 beer credits, you will gain 1 unique visitor through their beer algorithm. As of this posting, you just need a minimum of 4 beer credits or more than 3 beers on the wall. This means the higher beer credits or number of beers you have on the wall, the greater chance your blog will be chosen first. Getting more interested?

I suppose that this is what you are hoping for to read. All members are invited to buy beer stocks from them as investment. The principle is the same as any Stocks Exchange. You can wait until it grows or you can sell them later or immediately after buying them. You can also use them to promote your blogs. Furthermore, as a beer stocks holder, you are also entitled to be their affiliate member. Well, I think that make sense. I do not have these beer stocks yet but hopefully I can have some soon.
Now is it a better way to Entrecard dropping? Dropping cards while earning beer credits and gaining free traffic, why not? However, I just enrolled my blogs yesterday so I cannot say yet that it is really effective for me. Anyway, I will be monitoring its performance and just like what I am doing for Entrecard, I will try my best to update you some other time.
